It's Mount Greenwood's 100th birthday. The Southtown ran a story about it and I found this picture, it's on the corner of the house I grew up in. I don't feel like writing about anything else...

I remember St. Paddy's, 2005. I was down there taking photographs of the Southside Irish Parade with Erin Mash for a spread in the Chronicle. We went into a bar at about 115th St. & Western. It was packed as a mofo.
I don't remember which one it was, but, they were selling 1/2 gallon buckets of Bud Light for something like... I dunno... ten bucks or somethin. Bud Light on St. Paddy's... Of all the nerve!
I ask the bartendress: "How much for a bucket o' Guinness?"
"I dunno. le'me ask." comes the reply.
She comes back: "seventeen bucks!"
"Gimme one" I says.
She does an' dis bloke sees me drinkin' it and says to me, enthusiastically: "Youse can git Guinness?"
"I don't know if you can, but I asked for it an' she sold it to me for an extra seven bucks. Better'n drinkin' THAT swill." (meaning bud light).
And just like Pippin in the first Lord of the Rings movie, he says enthusiatically: "I'm gettin' one!"
Happy B-day Mt. Greenwood. An' may we both see a hunnert more. If not in life, then in spirit.
